I am delighted to report that last Saturday’s Young Leaders Global 5K run was our most successful yet. As you know, the 5K race is run by Young Leaders from our Chapters across the world. They “virtually” pass the baton to each other over a 22 hour period with the race starting in Australia, crossing Asia to Europe and across North America to the final race in San Francisco. This year over a thousand of our Young Leaders in a record 19 cities took part as listed below. A number of them are new cities including Tokyo, which had almost 90 runners. The largest single race was in Dallas with 130 runners. Additionally, this year a number of “pop up” races occurred, where individual members of the Young Leaders donned Ireland Funds shirts and ran for us took place in Bangkok, Rome and Fiji!
Most poignantly Sarah Rooney, Dan’s granddaughter whom many of you recall spoke so powerfully at this year’s conference, organized a 5K race in Pittsburgh starting at Heinz Field. This is so special, particularly this year of all years. One can only imagine how proud Dan would be of Sarah carrying the Rooney legacy of support for Ireland on to yet another generation.
Participating Cities included: Bangkok, Belfast, Boston, Brisbane, Chicago, Dallas, Dublin, Fiji, Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles, Melbourne, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Rome, San Francisco, Sydney, Tokyo, Toronto, Washington.
