Students at Turas took one small step (or rather 6,300 small steps!) on 19th November as they walked from the Skainos Centre in East Belfast to An Chultúrlann on the Falls Road. Turas, set up by Linda Ervine, means ‘journey’ in Irish. Turas seeks to (re)connect Protestants with their Ulster Irish heritage by offering free Irish language and cultural classes. This journey can be challenging, although ultimately rewarding, for many students.

The walk from Skainos to An Chultúrlann reflects this journey. Leaving behind the familiar environment of Newtownards Road, our students discovered a vibrant, welcoming Irish-language community in West Belfast. They were so proud to use their cúpla focal to order a cupán tae as Gaeilge. Maith iad!
